October Topper Race Week

This course is aimed at kids that are preficient at sailing looking to enhance their racing skills. The week will involve mostly on water tuition covering all manner or racing topics with brefings and debriefs on lad. 

ABOUT THE COURSE 

The gates will be open from around 0845. Please make sure you sign in and sign out. Boats should be on the top bank and rigged with sails rolled by 0930 when the course starts, with a briefing for kids and parents.

Courses:

There will be one group typically training in the mornings and racing in the afternoons with a regatta planned for the final day. If the weather or forecast is severe then sailing could be cut short or cancelled with parents notified by WhatsApp messages. We will not be able to make refunds if this happens.

GATE SECURITY

The gates are secured with old-fashioned combi-locks where you dial in a 4-digit number and then press the hasp downwards to open them. This number must never be left on the dials as anyone could then memorise it and open them. So please always relock the gates, close the padlocks and scramble the dials

CLOTHING & KIT

This is really about safety and keeping kids comfortable.

• We’ll be outdoors all day so bring a warm coat, DryRobe, or similar to wear over wetsuits when on shore.
• IB water is cold! A full wetsuit/drysuit plus windproof splash-top, hat and neck-warmer are essential.
• Eye Protection: Sunlight damages eyes as well as skin so a peaked cap and sunglasses are important.
• Waterproof suncreams
• Proper wetboots with thick wetsocks. ( Wet shoes/beach slippers/flip-flops/open-toed shoes are unsafe and lead to injury.)  
• Watches: A proper sailing watch is essential

 

BOAT SETUP

As this is a racing course boats must be set up properly beforehand. SEE LINK for some important setup requests. We'll cover rigging on the course but the boats also need the right kit. Please sort this before the course starts as kids whose boats aren't working can get really upset and put off by failures not of their own making. 

 

 PARENTS

We'd appreciate volunteers to crew safety boats or provide hot drinks at lunchtime. If you can help please get in touch ben@keepsailing.co.uk

• We're asking parents/carers if they can help with boats, food etc if they can. This is not compulsory but it's a good way of keeping parents involved and a great help to us. 
• Please make sure your kids' boats are insured - as they also need to be to enter open meetings and sail at the club.
• Finish will be 1600-1630 depending on conditions. Kids MUST be collected by 1630. Please remember to sign them in and out.
